Scapecow?

You have heard of “scapegoat,” right? But in Malaysia we have another name for it. We called it “scapecow”

Yes, cows seem to be a popular subject lately. The poor cows. They have done nothing yet they have been used. They are innocent. Glazing and minding their own business, but then people just won’t leave them alone.

First, there was “The Mad Cow Disease In Penang” as RPK coined it in Malaysia Today.

“The way those affected with this disease act is quite frightening,” said Professor Abdool Rehman. “People have been known to jump up from their chairs, try to climb walls, and they would pull down and destroy paintings and photographs. The look on their faces when they go berserk is something you have to personally see to appreciate. It is indeed a most ugly sight that words can never describe. The fact that most of these people are already ugly to start off with makes it even worse. I for one would dread to catch such a disease and that is why from now on I have become a vegetarian and shun all forms of meat.”

The Mad Cow Disease?

Then came “The Car and Cows” controversy, where the MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan said that the MACC has “good and strong evidence” of corruption against the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid. Nothing came out of it and MACC was then called “Malaysia Agency for Car and Cows”

And the latest was the protest in Shah Alam against the decision to build an Indian temple in a Malay or rather Muslim majority housing area. For that the protesters brought a severed bloody cow-head during the protest. In the process, they stepped on the head and spit on it. And they became the famous “Cow-head Protesters”

Then came an ex-MB who said that cows are stupid animal. They can be led by a ring around their nose. That’s “Stupid Cow”

The Cow-Head Protesters!

Oops! Let’s not forget about the Kampung Buah Pala issue. It is also better known as The High Chaparral” because the Indians who lived there are supposed to be cow-herders, the “Penang High Chaparral Cowboys!” Now they have to find a new place to raise the cows.

So what has the cows done wrong? Why dragged them into your agenda? Will there be another cow story soon? Even cows are not spared in Malaysian Politics!  Another “scapecow?”
