Silly Of Me To Ask

Silly of me to ask but why is UMNO fielding a candidate for the Permatang Pasir state seat by-election, who  had been struck off from the roll by the Bar Council for alleged misappropriation of client’s funds? In other word, a corrupted lawyer. Lawyer who cheated on client’s money.

Is there a reason or catch why UMNO would dare to nominate such a candidate? Or is it that BN/UMNO has no other potential? Or maybe that’s the cleanest they can find.

Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Rohaizat was eligible to contest for the Permatang Pasir state seat by-election even if his civil lawyer’s licence had been revoked by the Bar Council.

He said that the issue would not affect Rohaizat’s chances in the by-election.

“Umno’s legal advisor has run a check and found that he (Rohaizat) is still eligible to contest in Permatang Pasir,” he told reporters after visiting the BN operations centre in Bukit Meraj, Jalan Permatang Pauh today.

Zahid, who is also Penang Umno liaison chief, was commenting on media reports pertaining to the revocation of Rohaizat’s civil lawyer’s licence by the Bar Council.

Meanwhile the opposition has once again raised the issue of Rohaizat’ status as a lawyer following reports that he had been struck off from the roll by the Bar Council for alleged misappropriation of clients’ funds.

PKR’s election bureau director and Machang MP Saifuddin Nasution said Rohaizat should explain and clarify the contentious issue.

“If it is true, what’s the guarantee the same thing would not happen with the people’s money if he were to be elected?” asked the PKR leader.

Rohaizat, 38, has said that the case was a ‘non-issue‘.
