A Song I Wrote…, 5 Years ago!

It took me 5 long years and now I finally done it - upload this song that I have written on You Tube and share it to the world.

I have written about 15 songs and this is one of them which I have done as a home recording project. I wanted to do a album but then, in 2005 I was diagnosed with throat cancer. To be precise it’s cancer of the larynx (voice box). In 2007, I had a surgery to remove my larynx and since then I am unable to talk again let alone to sing.

This song was recorded at home on a ZOOM Mini Recording Studio (MRS) which I bought for about RM1300. Everything you see and hear on this video is done by me, from writing the song, singing, doing the music, mixing, video editing, etc,  except for the help of a good friend, Su Mei who did the harmony. The song was recorded at the time when I was going through a 32 courses of radiation (radiotherapy). I still was able to do a bit of singing then, so I quickly recorded this song and few others, knowing that soon I will have to lose my voice completely for good.

And just a month ago I picked up some basic video editing. Took out some of my old video clips and started editing to produce this video.

Now you know why it took  me 5 long years to do this video.

If you have been a regular visitor to my blog, I guess you may not know that I do sing, at one point of my life. Even while writing this article, a tiny teardrop rolled down my cheek. Yes, I once could talk, shout and sing but now I can only listen to my own voice.

If you enjoy this song, and do wish to use it in anyway, please do contact me. Thanks.

  2. WOW! that’s fantastic Daniel, dah surrendered! :D

  3. You\’re a great artist, Dan!

And artists don\’t surrender! You didn\’t!

    Or did you? ;))

  4. Thanks guys for your kind words.

And Salak, yes I did surrender in a way. I sold all my instruments, which includes 4 guitars, gadgets, the recording unit, etc etc. haha!!!

A few months after my surgery, I picked up the guitar and started playing and when I opened my mouth to sing, nothing came out. I forgot I am unable to talk or sing again. Frustrated I sold all my instruments.

  5. Daniel that was beautiful. I felt a lump in my throat thinking abt how u must have felt undergoing such a traumatic xperience. Makes it worse after having met u. And definitely admire you for having such wonderful talents like ur Artwork and ur zest for life. Keep it up!

  6. Daniel,
The greatest gift is to be able to surrender the most beautiful part of yourself to God..
    You have done that..
And God has blessed you with another beautiful gift - to be salt of this earth, a lamp unto those in the dark.
I am moved to tears as i listened to this song, again and again.
I am truly blessed to know you Daniel!

  7. Really enjoyed your song Daniel. Well done.

  8. Hi Peng, Lawrence & Jude. Thank you all for your compliments and your encouragement. I just pray that this song will be a blessing to all those who listen to it. It’s a joy for me to know that you are blessed!

  9. wow, good job bro. Keep it up!

  10. Hi Daniel,
There is a reason for everything, never doubt that God has called you for a higher purpose. My Dad had the same cancer like you at 78, and his trauma brought him to Christ! Today he is 84, not only cancer free but testifying to God’s grace everywhere with his voice synthesizer. I am going to let him hear your song and share your journey, he will be encouraged. God bless you, Daniel!

  11. Hi Lucy, wonderful to know that your dad came to the Lord. And I pray that my song and “journey” will be an encouragement and a blessing to him.

He is better than me, he has a voice synthesizer to communicate. As for me I thank God for computers (emails, blogging, chat) and mobile phones (text message). That’s what keeps me sane.

  12. Bro, teach me to sing like u lah… admire man!!!
Well, When I met you previously, I was thinking of how your voice will sound like…Now I know. Beautiful.

This song is really wonderful. And the MV…haha! Grand la….

I am currently writing few songs and may be in the future, u can write the chords for me :D how about that?

  13. Hi Jarod,

Ya, I once had a voice lah. And the MV, it was from a concert my band (CrossWorks) did in 2004 at KOMTAR Penang.

Be glad to help out with your songs.
