Altantuya The Taboo Word

Posted in LIFE on March 31st, 2009

According to a state PKR leader, the police imposed several conditions when issuing permits for the PKR ceramah.

Among the main restrictions are:

  • No instigating the crowd by questioning the Perak sultan’s decision
  • No mention of the Altantuya issue must be made
  • No racial and religious issues can be raised

Read here.

I can understand the first and third restrictions, but Altantuya? What is the problem? What is the reason for restricting the Altantuya issue? Why afraid that PKR will raise the issue? Simply rediculous!

The police in a way has help the rakyat to clear their doubts over Najib’s involvement in the Altantuya murder. Instead of defending the allegation (if it is all lies), they have strengthen the people’s belief that Najib is involved. If not, then why restrict the Altantuya issue? BN should come out and defend and clear the issue. BN has forgotten that we no longer lived in the 50’s. People are more informed than you think. As the saying goes, “You can fool somebody sometimes, but you can’t fool everybody all the time.” Anyway, I believe by banning the issue of Altantuya is to the advantage of the opposition. The BN has given proof of guilt by their action.

If BN can raise issues about Anwar’s  sodomy case and his alleged connection with George Soros, and about Elizabeth Wong and how she  sleeps,  why can’t PKR talk about Altantuya? Even on racial and religious issues, were BN also issued the same restrictions?  Or is it just for PKR?

And they expect us to believe that there will be change? Play fair and we might believe but it doesn’t look that way. Whatever happened to the famous quote, “Judge me by my action!” And I don’t think this is the kind of action we expected.

Earth Hour & Pizza

Posted in CITIZEN'S COLUMN, LIFE, MALAYSIA, NEWS, PICTURE TALK, SMILE on March 29th, 2009

I thought I was going to have a short nap late this afternoon, but that nap lasted for more than two good hours. By the time I woke up it was around 8.00pm! If it was not for the hunger, I would have slept through I guess.  And the first thing on my mind was - Earth Hour! And the second thing was - pizza!

So I quickly washed up and switched off the lights in house and went out for my dinner, and to check how well did Penangites respond to Earth Hour.

The first thing I saw as I stepped out form my house was that my next door neighbour’s house was completely “black” and so was the one directly opposite. I was so glad that some houses in my neighbourhood had their lights off! I estimated that at least 30-40% of the houses around my area responded. I said 30 -40% because some houses have their house lights dimmed and some switched off the lights in the house s but left their gates or porch lights on (I guess it’s because they feel safer with a bit of lights around the house). Well, at least they participate.

And to see how the rest of Penang is doing (kay po), I drove down to Gurney Drive.  Coffee Bean, Starbucks, Dome, Pizza Hut, a Japanese restuarant - Yataimura, Berjaya Hotel, G Hotel and few others went partially dark. Even the hawker’s centre along Gurney Drive went dark. But then I was surprised to see MacDonald’s, Dominos and KFC fully lighted. *sigh* And so was the 24hrs mamak shops and the chinese coffee shops. I guess business to them is more important to them than climate change!

Well, I’m sure other hotels and establishments in Penang went dark. I heard the Penang bridge and Komtar went “black.” And so did the colonial buildings along the Espanade.

Did we do well? Did we get the message across against climate change? Are the people aware of global warming? Was the event a success or just meaningless?

By 9.30pm, lights are back everywhere. And I went for my pizza!

The Amazing “Faith”

A Truly Amazing Story of  ‘Faith’

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which need to be  amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive. Therefore, he was thinking of ‘putting him to sleep’. By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She is determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself. Therefore she named him ‘Faith’

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around. Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward. After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him. He is now becoming famous on the international scene. He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows. There is even one book entitled ‘With a little faith’ being published about him. He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies.

His present owner Jude Stringfellew has  given up her teaching post and plans to take him around the world to  preach that even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul’.

In life there are always undesirable things. Perhaps one will feel better if one changes the point of view from another direction.

I hope this post will bring fresh new ways of thinking to everyone and that everyone can appreciate and be thankful for each beautiful day that follows.

Faith is the continual demonstration of the Strength of Life
