This is just ridiculous! Can you imagine that! You could be charged under Section 27(5) of the Police Act for illegal assembly, and the second for alleged trespassing under the Penal Code for attending hari Raya Open House. How much more absurd can this be? What logic is this? Can’t even go in a group to the PM’s Open House, it’s “illegal assembly,” and going to an Raya Open House is “trespassing!”

I can imagine, all those guests and visitors to the Open House being called in by the police to record their statement about the Open House.  And what “incident?” The only incident I can think of is that the event was sensationalized by the media and some ministers.

While we at it, they might as well investigate or charge them for 1) wearing orange shirts, 2) not greeting or shaking hands with Badawi, 3) presenting to Badawi an oversized greetings card, 4) and for helping themselves to the food without permission.

And this is what N. Surendran, the lawyer representing the Hindraf group has to say:

“There is only one way to describe the investigations and offences suggested; they are absurd, ridiculous and the most silly exercise and abuse of police powers that we have heard of so far,” said Surendran before the interrogation.

“This is a blatant example of a politically motivated investigation into citizens… this is why we have to look into reform of the police force because they are clearly being used by government leaders,” he said.

Surendran also described the investigation as “intimidation, harassment and another chapter in the continuing political persecution of the Hindraf movement which is doing nothing but fighting for marginalised Malaysian citizens”.
