The Umno Race For Survival
Abdullah To Decide In Two Days
Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will decide within the next two days if he will defend his post in the party polls slated for next March.
Political pundits are predicting that Abdullah will call it a day, paving the way for his deputy Najib Abdul Razak to take over the reins of Umno. By convention, the Umno president becomes the prime minister and head of the BN.

Will there be any surprises? Will he call it a day and pass the baton to Najib?
“There is some work that I have to undertake. The reforms that I promised to the rakyat, I will undertake of course. I will still do it,†he said.
Is that a hint that he will stay on and run for the presidency? Will Najub sees red, if he does that? There are atleast 3 candidates who offer themselves to contest for the deputy spot. And another 3-4 candidates are waiting at the side-line ready to jump in.
This is a polls chart taken from Anil Netto’s site as of 12.00 pm, 7th Oct 2008.
Between Abdullah and Najib, who would you prefer as PM?
- Not sure/Neither (62%, 280 Votes)
- Abdullah (36%, 160 Votes)
- Najib (2%, 9 Votes)
Total Voters:Â 449
So the majority would not choose or not sure on either one. But if given a choice between Badawi and Najib, the majority would prefer Badawi over Najib. Looks like the PM-in-waiting is not a popular choice. Do we, as Malaysians have a choice? What are we in for , if the baton is passed on? Only God knows!
