Sunday Special And My Prediction

Posted in FOOD, LIFE, PICTURE TALK, MALAYSIA, SUNDAY SPECIAL on August 24th, 2008

Sunday again. And two more days to the ‘mother of all elections.’ I’m talking about the Permatang Pauh By-Election. All eyes will be on Anwar, the hot favourite to win.  And this is my prediction: “Anwar will win by a 18,000 and above majority.” Impossible? We will know this Tuesday.

In the meantime, let’s see what’s on this Sunday Special.

Gov’t Slashes Petrol Price By 15 sen

Posted in LIFE, PICTURE TALK, AROUND THE BLOG, MALAYSIA, NEWS on August 22nd, 2008

Abdullah Badawi

The government announces that price of RON97 petrol will go down by 15 sen from RM2.70 to RM2.55 per litre at the pumps beginning midnight.Meanwhile, the lower grade RON92 petrol will be slashed by 22 sen from RM2.62 to RM2.40 a litre. For diesel, the price will go down by eight sen, from RM2.58 to RM2.50.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi made the announcement today - two days after he reiterated that petrol prices would not be cut before Aug 31.

In a statement, he said: “The petrol prices were fixed after taking into account the real price of petrol from Aug 1 to Aug 21, as well as the fixing of 30 sen subsidy for both grades.”"Apart from this, the cabinet also decided to reduce the price of diesel by eight sen. At RM2.50 per litre, the subsidy borne by the government for diesel will be 50 sen for every litre,” he added. He said that reduction of the fuel prices was due to a significant drop in global oil prices this month.

Help alleviate the burden

As announced today, Abdullah said that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2008 as compared to July last year had increased at a rate of 8.5 percent.

“It is the government’s hope that the reduction in petrol and diesel prices will help alleviate the burden of consumers and reduce the pressure of inflation, especially for the lower and middle income groups.

“The government’s decision was also made based on current economic developments,” he added.

Abdullah said on Aug 1, the government announced that the market price of petrol until the end of the year will be streamlined on the 1st of every month, with the subsidy set at 30 sen.

However, he said, this formula can only be implemented if the market price of petrol goes lower than RM2.70 per litre.

“If the market price is higher than RM2.70 per litre, then the price will remain at RM2.70 per litre,” he added.

Another coincidence? Why make the announcement now, when the Permatang Pauh By-Election is just 4 days away? Are you bribing the nation? Should we be happy or feel insulted and cheated?

Just two days ago, he said the price of petrol would not be slashed before 31st August, and today he made the announcement! What’s wrong with you? Can’t you be honest for once? Whatever that comes out from his mouth can never be trusted. He has become a compulsive LIAR! Lying is his second nature.

First, they splashed money around for schools and a hospital, and scrap metal collector’s permits to the Indians (actually it’s an insult, like that’s what the Indians are only good for) and now 15 sen petrol cut to the nation. More goodies! Isn’t this money politics?

You know what? You can keep the 15sen, we, Malaysians are not that cheap!  We will take Permatang Pauh, and the price of petrol will be slashed by 50 sen soon!

Don’t Draw Conclusions From Medical Reports Alone?

Posted in LIFE, AROUND THE BLOG, MALAYSIA, NEWS on August 21st, 2008
PETALING JAYA: The public should refrain from drawing conclusions or making misleading speculation from medical reports alone, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said.Referring to the circulation of a flyer alleging that a person was not sodomised based entirely on physical examination findings from a medical record released in the Internet, Dr Ismail stressed that one could not be certain that sexual abuse had taken place simply based on such findings.

“No lay person should make his or her own interpretation of what may have happened simply by looking at the medical records, without knowing the circumstances and other important information that only the examining medical practitioner may be privy to,” he said in a statement Thursday.

Dr Ismail said that medical records or reports should not be circulated or be published in the media in the first place.

“This is in direct breach of patient confidentiality and is liable to be used for reasons unacceptable to the medical profession.”

So what is this now? Another excuse? If we can’t rely on the medical report, why have a medical examination in the first place?

Does Swearing Upon The Holy Book Make One Innocent?

Saiful

Bloggers were having a field time blogging about the latest sensation, “Saiful swearing on the Quran.”  It wouldn’t do any justice if I don’t blog about it. I know, I know, the Premier asked that we leave Saiful alone.  But then how can we just leave him out, after all he is the one who started it all. He wouldn’t want to be left alone. He wants to be in the news. That’s why on the eve of the Nomination Day for the By-Election of Permatang Pauh, he went to the FT Mosque and sworn on the Quran that he was sodomized and that he was telling the truth. He then called for a press conference to let the world know that he sworn on the Quran. And not only that, he even produced a video of the swearing at the mosque to prove that he did it, I mean the swearing on the Quran.

And he said it was a coincidence that he chose to swear in the mosque when the next day it’s the Nomination Day. He said he didn’t know Anwar was running for the by-election when the whole nation knows that. And weeks before the Nomination Day he even wished Anwar the best on the election. And yet he said he didn’t know. Isn’t that ironic? So what is the point of swearing on the Quran when you can’t even tell the truth here?

And the Premier is telling us to leave him alone. Please understand Mr. Premier that he doesn’t want “to be left alone.” Read the rest of this entry »

A Million Ringgit Carrot

Posted in MUSIC, LIFE, PICTURE TALK, AROUND THE BLOG, NEWS on August 18th, 2008

Lee Chong Wei

15th Aug - I remember seeing this cartoon by the famous cartoonist Lat (now a Dato’) It shows a man with his 2 sons, each holding a badminton racket, passing by a Proton car showroom. The car salesman invited him in to have a look at the Proton car. The man replied, “it’s ok, my sons are taking up badminton.”

The joke was at that time, badminton players who won any tournament were given a Proton car.  Then later on they were also given a condo or house and also a piece of land.

But now, they are lured by a one million Ringgit carrot if they could win a gold medal in the Olympics. The carrot is getting more and more expensive these days. Could be due to the fuel price hike and the food price hike.

And looks like our shuttler Lee Chong Wei is the only hope for a medal  and is not far from being a millionaire (or is he a millionaire already?) And probably a datukship to go with it. WILL HE MAKE IT?

Our Best Hope ( The Sun)

UPDATED: 12.15am 16th Aug - So Lee Chong Wei made it to the final by beating South Korean Lee Hyun-il. He will meet China’s Lin Dan for gold, and if he wins he will be a millionaire. Well, even if he loses, he will still have 300K. But of course there is a vast difference. 700K diference!!! Let hope that he will make us proud by bagging the first Olympics’ gold ever for Malaysia.

UPDATED: 1.18am 18th Aug - It’s so sad for Malaysia’s No 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei. Looks like the gold medal has eluded Malaysia again. I’m not a badminton fan and for that matter I would say I know very little about the game. But then from what I saw in the match between CW Lee and Lin Dan, Chong Wei was not much of a match to Lin Dan. I can see that Chong Wei made a lot of mistakes that cost him precious points. Chong Wei looks nervous.

I was at a mamak stall and the place was packed with people watching the match. Many just parked their bikes or cars on the roadside and stand there watching. It would be such a wonderful atmosphere if Chong Wei were to win the gold medal. Many left feeling disappointed and sad.

Anyway, I hope Chong Wei would lift his head high and be proud that he got the silver medal. He gave his best. We are proud of you, Lee Chong Wei. You tried and you did well.
