Does Swearing Upon The Holy Book Make One Innocent?
Bloggers were having a field time blogging about the latest sensation, “Saiful swearing on the Quran.â€Â It wouldn’t do any justice if I don’t blog about it. I know, I know, the Premier asked that we leave Saiful alone. But then how can we just leave him out, after all he is the one who started it all. He wouldn’t want to be left alone. He wants to be in the news. That’s why on the eve of the Nomination Day for the By-Election of Permatang Pauh, he went to the FT Mosque and sworn on the Quran that he was sodomized and that he was telling the truth. He then called for a press conference to let the world know that he sworn on the Quran. And not only that, he even produced a video of the swearing at the mosque to prove that he did it, I mean the swearing on the Quran.
And he said it was a coincidence that he chose to swear in the mosque when the next day it’s the Nomination Day. He said he didn’t know Anwar was running for the by-election when the whole nation knows that. And weeks before the Nomination Day he even wished Anwar the best on the election. And yet he said he didn’t know. Isn’t that ironic? So what is the point of swearing on the Quran when you can’t even tell the truth here?
And the Premier is telling us to leave him alone. Please understand Mr. Premier that he doesn’t want “to be left alone.â€
And furthermore, Badawi declared openly that Saiful was seeking justice because he was a “victim.â€Â In other words, he is saying that Anwar is guilty of sodomizing Saiful. Even before the court has started the proceedings, the PM has already made a decision that Saiful was the victim – so naturally that makes Anwar the guilty party, the culprit – that’s Badawi perception! Badawi also said, “The incident must have been traumatic, otherwise he would not have lodged the police report.” Ok now doesn’t that statement sounds like Badawi believed the Saiful was really sodomized? He said the “incident” meaning the act of sodomize, and it must have be “traumatic.” So Saiful must have been really sodomized that’s why he was traumatized. Isn’t that’s what Badawi is implying? He has already put judgement on Anwar. That prejudice!
And And he even agreed about the swearing on the Quran when other clergies and leaders say that it’s un-Islamic. So what is it? Is it the right thing to do as a Muslim to swear on the Quran or not? And if it is un-Islamic like most scholars and religious leaders say, why did our PM kind of endorse it? And why did the FT Mosque Imans allowed the swearing and even acted as witnesess if it is un-Islamic. I’m confused!
And since we are on this subject of swearing, what if Anwar were to swear on the Quran that he did not sodomized Saiful, that he is innocent? Will the civil court dismissed the case since he sworn on the Quran? Does it make him innocent? If not, what is the whole idea of swearing? That would also make one of them lying on the Quran because both can’t be telling the truth. And yet our PM and Mahathir asked Anwar to also do the same as Saiful, that is to swear on the Quran! That would really make a mockery of the Quran. That would be blasphemy!
