All over the cyberspace you can read from bloggers to readers who commented on blogs about the announcement that Badawi made about the RM2 billion cost cuts.
Ghapur said it’s just eyewash - nothing to shout about.
Lim Kit Siang asked why stop at paltry 10 percent cut? Why not 50 percent?
And many others think all this was just for show. Some even said, “They will all talk but they will not truly implement these cutbacks.”
Even the Umno Youth leader asked that why only the 10 percent entertaiment allowance, why not a 10 percent salary cut on all the ministers and deputies.
From the above comments, I guess the people don’t trust what the PM said. And even if he implement what he proposed, does it make any difference to the rakyat?
You can cut this and that, or save this and that - the end of the day the fuel price is still the same. Bring down the fuel price and stop all the masquerade about the cutbacks! Then we will believe you are trying to ease the hardship of the people.
Furthermore how much does the cuts affect the ministers and the deputies? Literally - NOTHING! Chicken feed! They can cut 10 percent from the entertainment allowances no problem. In return they will get their 10 percent commission cut! Or even more.
Let’s do some calculation here. (By the way, not many of us know about this allowances till now)
Chart from Malaysiakini
And this is what I come up with.

And as you can see from the above chart, the total entertainment allowance cut is only RM60,180 per month. So annually it works out to RM722,160 out of the RM2 billion expected to be saved! So what is the percentage of that? You work it out. And they could still enjoy the RM6,499,440 allocated to them. So what is the big deal!
I wonder who do they entertained? And what kind of entertainment?
And what about the annual holidays? How much can they really save from there? Asean countries?
Asean countries also got 5-star hotels, my friend. And they eat at the fine-dining restaurants! Make international telephone calls! Snacks and drinks from the mini bar! And dining with friends at the restaurant - does that come under entertainment allowance or annual holiday expenses? And is there are certain ceiling limits? I guess not, sky is the limit.
Who are you fooling? Saving? Where will that RM2 bil go to? Or should I put it, who will the RM2 bil go to? I don’t think I will get any out of it but one thing I know - I still have to pay RM2.70 per litre for fuel! So whatever your deal is, it makes no difference to me. My car still needs to pump up petrol.
