Yong Teck Lee - The Brave One
It doesn’t matter whether it’s politically motivated or for personal greed, or whether it’s for the good of Sabahans or a conspiracy to oust the Prime Minister, or whether it’s revenge or instigated by the opposition - it takes a brave man to do what he did. And this is the first in the history of Malaysian politics that someone dare to call for a no-confidence against a Prime Minister. Whatever your reason, I believe it takes a lot of guts and a brave soul to challenge the Prime Minister and the BN party, knowing that you have to face the music and for that you are prepared for any consequences! Bravo!
By doing what he did the BN/Umno, Yong also said that he expected the BN propaganda campaign to be stepped up against him personally from now onwards. He added that he had received a call from the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) regarding a corruption trial case involving a former federal minister from Sabah, alleging that he had demanded for RM5 million bribe. “Why bring it up now?”
He also said on June 17 - the day before the party went public on the vote of no confidence against Abdullah - the Prime Minister’s Department had sent him a letter saying the government was recommending him for a senator’s post.
“It was clearly an attempt to seal my lips, to keep quiet about all the issues that the party and I have raised. In fact, it is a form of bribery,” Yong added.
Whatever the reason, he has led the way for others to come out and dare to stand up for what’s right. If a leader is weak, it’s only right that someone take the stand and point it out to him! Yong Teck Lee -you will go down in Malaysian history. You deserved to be called “The Brave One.” We salute you!
