Excuse Me, Mr Prime Minister!

Abdullah Badawi sleeping

If I were Abdullah Badawi, I would just simply bow my head down and say sorry to the rakyat. He owed the people this! He knew and even admitted that because of corruptions, inflation and raising crime rates, the BN paid heavily for it in the election. Yet if you read some of the statements he made in the media after the election, it shows that he has not repented and have not learned the lesson.

[Flanked by BN component party leaders at a press conference yesterday, he played down the failure to obtain a two-thirds majority in Parliament. When first asked about it, he retorted: 'In what way is it so vital? 'As far as we are concerned, we are not so crazy to be wanting to get two-third’ – THE STRAITS TIMES ]

Listen to it :  ‘In what way is it so vital? ‘As far as we are concerned, we are not so crazy to be wanting to get two-thirds.’

Hello! Anybody in the right mind know how vital that two-third is and he said, ‘in what way is it vital?’ And he said they are not so crazy to be wanting to get the two-thirds majority. Hello again, wake up! Anybody would know that the two-third is vital to run the government effectively and that is what the opposition has be targeting for and BN has been trying it’s best to prevent it. Now that the Opposition has achieved that, let’s see how BN as the federal government is going to change or amend the constitution as they like in parliament. It’s like him saying, “aiyah, not vital lah, and kita bukan gila untuk the two-thirds. We called for the election sebab we got nothing to do. This is just to keep us busy for a while. It is not important lah the two-thirds, see we still get to form the federal government. And now it’s even better, we don’t have to worry about Penang, Kedah. Perak, Selangor and Kelantan.”  C’mon, wake up and smell the coffee!

He also said he alone is not be blamed, as all decisions and policies that the government made is done by consensus. In other words he is saying all has to take the responsibilities together. Yea right! When he dissolved the parliament, was it by concensus?  Or when he set the date for the 12th General Election, was it by concensus? The nation has to wait till he gets his inspiration! None of the ministers knew. And if the date of the poll was done by concensus, then all the ministers were lying! And that’s not good. And when the whole nation thinks that he has been sleeping all this while and even called him ‘sleepy head,’ was it by concensus too? Eh, maybe that one is.

I can imagine if BN were to win with a landslide victory, everybody will jump in and claim for the credit and glory. All will claim that it was their effort and hard work that accounted for the victory. Now everyone one seems to be voiceless, even Khiary. Now everyone is doing some soul searching. I wonder whose? Nobody wants to be the fall guy!

But then, there a couple of ministers who conceded defeat graciously. Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon took the full responsibilities for the humiliating defeat by Gerakan and is willing to step down as the party leader. He even made an effort to attend the swearing in ceremony of Lim Guan Eng as CM of Penang. That is a true diplomatic gentleman! MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said, he will decline a cabinet post. He said he felt responsible for the party’s poor showing and lack of support from the Chinese voters. Well, we respect both of you for acknowledging your failure. Actually it doesn’t have to be this way if you have been listening and stand up for the people. Hmmm! now did we hear anything from Samy? The last I heard is that he is still clinging on to the presidency post of MIC! Hard to face defeat after all these years?
.
Furthermore, Badawi said he pity his beloved son-in-law, Khiary, when the whole country believes that it was partly because of his arrogance and big mouth and his agenda, BN took the downfall. Is he in denial or has he been out of touch with what has be going on. The whole nation knows it, except him. Aiyah anyway, he knows it lah!

I was hoping that Badawi would humble himself and admit his weakness and failures. And pledge to reform the government, and start listening to the rakyat and do the right thing again. It takes a great leader to admit his wrongs and failures and to humble oneself. And I think you owe that to the Rakyat. And by doing that, you might win back the trust and respect of the people. Glory days are over; it’s the beginning of a new dawn!

One Response to “Excuse Me, Mr Prime Minister!”

  1. If you want to have a better future for our children in Malaysia, do your part by signing the on-line petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/RCER2008/petition.html

This is one of the way (non-violence) to bring our message to the Government.

Don’t just sit there, stand up and be counted! We want a fair and transparent election.

WHY DO WE NEED TO REFORM THE ELECTION COMMISSION?

    1) Gerrymandering. The discrepancy between number of voters in voting areas is too great. The smallest parliamentary seat (Federal Territory, Putrajaya) has only 6,608 voters while the parliamentary seat for Kapar in Selangor has 112,224 voters. What this means is that one vote in the Putrajaya parliamentary constituency is equivalent to 17 votes in the Kapar constituency.

    2) Phantom voters. A common tactic is to ‘buy’ the identity card of the voters. Party members from the ruling parties will then vote on the voters’ behalf. Random checking of a person’s identity must be conducted using those finger print checking device (like the bank use). Any voting done on another person’s identity must be made a serious offence under the election law.

    3) Postal votes. The rules on postal voting must be reviewed, tightened and amended. The current rule favours the ruling party as the armed forces personnel and policemen who vote by ‘postal voting’ would obviously not jeopardize their career or promotion prospect by voting for the opposition. Voting under postal voting is not secret as it is under the watchful eyes of the senior officers. Christina Liew of DAP (Api-Api) lost due to postal votes. The ruling party has control of 250,000 postal votes!

    4) Spoiled votes. How do we define spoiled votes. It is very easy to turn good votes into spoiled votes (by adding one more x to the ballot paper). Are spoiled votes being verified and watched over by the party representatives? In marginal areas in which the winning margin is razor thin, the so-called spoiled votes need to be scrutinized.
