Food Revolutionized!

There is a saying “everything must change – nothing remains the same.” How true! Look at our lifestyle, our world, and even the climate. And many of us don’t even noticed the changes because we ourselves are so caught up with the changing world, that we hardly take the time to notice it. We just drift along.

Take the example of food:

As I remembered Char Koay Kak used to be just the Koay Kak fried with dark soya sauce, soya sauce and char por. That’s it! Later on taugeh was added, then chili, then eggs.  And today they have seafood Char Koay Kak

And Curry Mee. Used to be with just cockles, cuttlefish, tau pok, cooked blood and sometimes small prawns. Now you can have curry me with char siew, fish balls and long beans. And in some places you can even have big prawns, curry chicken and giblets, squids, etc. And one bowl of Curry Mee can cost you more than RM8, depends on the extra.

The same with Hokkein Mee, Originally, Hokkien Mee is served with just thinly sliced small prawns and pork, and some have a quarter hard boiled egg. Today Hokkien Mee like Curry Mee can cost just as much with extra, pork ribs, big prawns, egg, fish balls, char siew, etc.

How about Ban Chien Kueh (Chinese Pancake) – It was just with grounded peanuts mixed with sesame seeds and sugar. Then later on margarine and eggs are added. Today you can have it with, corns, raisins, banana, cheese, sausages, tomyam and just about anything.

And our good old Roti Canai – not only you can have your roti with banana, eggs, cheese, sardine, jam. Milo, milk, etc, they also comes in different shape, size and thickness. And they have strange names like Roti Osama, Roti Japan, Korea, US, and whatever country they can think of. Asked the Japanese whether they have heard of Rot Japan, and they will scratch his head and laugh.

Yes our food will revolutionized whether we like it or not and it but it will be so subtle, we can hardly notice it.

What Do You See?

Who do you see God as?

Do you see God as a Distant Deity, who is out of your reach?
Or do you see God as a Gentle Grandparent, who pampers you and let you have your way?
Or a Strict Schoolteacher who makes sure you does everything right and in order?
Or do you see God as a Punishing Policeman who chastised you every time you do wrong?
Or a Generous Genie who would just gives you anything you ask?
Or God as a Faceless Force, who just come and go as he likes.
Or is God a Callous Creator who just leave us here on this earth to fend for ourselves.

Or do you see God as The Loving Father, who is always there for us to love us and care for us.  A Father who lovingly disciplined us to teach us, not to punish us when we do wrong. A Father who is loving, caring, forgiving, and always sees to our needs. What you conceived God to be - will determine who God is to you and your relationship with Him.  Well…

I SEE LOVE

Some see a teacher standing on a hill
Speaking words of wisdom
Some see a healer reaching out his hand
To give sight to a blind man
Some see a dreamer wasting his life
On what can never be
Some see a fool, dying for his dreams

But I see love, I see love
Light of heaven breaking through
Well I see grace , I see God’s face
Shining pure and perfect love
When I see you, I see love

Some see a prisoner alone before his judge
With no one to defend him
Some see a victim, beaten and abused
With all the world against him
Some see a martyr, carrying his cross
For what he believes
Some see a hero, who set his people free

With your last breath, I see love
Through your death, I see love
I see peace in the eyes of the king
I see hope in your suffering
I see a calm in the center of the storm
I see a Saviour

Some see Him walking from an empty grave

“King of Rock and Roll”

Posted in MUSIC, PICTURE TALK on August 16th, 2007

For many people it is hard to believe that it has been 30 years since the death of rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley. Every year, 600,000 people from around the world visit his home, Graceland, in the U.S. southern city of Memphis, Tennessee.

In the mid-1950s, Elvis Presley played a new kind of music, fusing country and rhythm-and-blues with a new rock-and-roll style. He swiveled his hips on stage, mimicking the moves of black entertainers. At first, many people did not know what to think about him. But it was not long before young people went crazy over his music and flocked to his concerts. Elvis became known as the king of rock and roll. His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977. If Elvis were alive today, he would be 72 years old, but to his fans he is forever young.

THANK GOD I’M FORGIVEN

AMAZING LOVE

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken
I’m accepted You were condemned
I’m alive and well Your spirit lives within me
Because You died and rose again

Amazing love how can it be
That You my king would die for me
Amazing love I know it’s true
It’s my joy to honor You
In all I do I honor You

Am I Depressed? Of Course!

Posted in LIFE, LARYNGECTOMY on August 10th, 2007

Am I depressed? Of course I am! Who would not be if you are in my situation? I’ll be lying if I say I’m not depressed! From the day I took my first breath, I’ve been able to communicate with my voice, whether it is by crying, screaming, whining, shouting, singing, talking, whispering or just whistling. Now all these are taken away from me permanently. It’s not like you have a sore throat – where you voice will come back in a few days. This is permanent, unless I do another surgery or use a special speech amplifier. Then again it might not necessary works.

I get depressed when I with a group of people and cannot communicate.
I get depressed when I order my food and have to just point to what I want.
I get depressed when I get choked on my food.
I get depressed when I go to church and see everybody singing except me.
I get depressed when I meet someone and have to just nod my head and walk away – with an impression that I’m snobbish.
I get depressed when I’m invited to dinner and I usually have to excuse myself. And even if I go, I get depressed when I could not join in the conversation – the normal way.
I get depressed when my mobile phone rings and I could not answer. And that same person keeps on calling back again and again, not knowing I cannot answer.
I get depressed when I listen to music while driving and cannot sing along.
I get depressed when I listen to my own songs that I’ve recorded and knowing that it was my voice – and I can never sing my own songs again.
I get depressed when I go to sleep and reality sinks in and hit you – “hey I can never talk ever,” – and often tears will flow out from my eyes. Yes I do shed tears.

But am I into depression? Clinical depression? Am I into a state of intense sadness, melancholia or despair to the point of being disruptive to my social functioning or activities of daily living? No I’m not into that! Not in that sense. I’m just “being disheartened.” I am only depressed in a situation and at that moment only. Life still goes on. I don’t need to take some medication to suppress it. I don’t lie down on my bed and go into a world of my own. I’m not suicidal!

But then I have friend who is closer than a brother. A friend who has been there.  A friend who says “I understand.” A friend who will not forsake me. A friend who walks with me and talks with me. A friend who is there in good times or bad times. A friend who invites me to take his yoke and he will give me rest. A friend who will wipe away my tears. A friend who died for you and me. A friend named Jesus!

There is a reason for these changing seasons, and God only knows how much your heart can bear.  Everybody has their up and down times. For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is plant; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; He has made everything beautiful in its time: also he has set eternity in our heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end. The important thing is that everybody needs to know how much they’re loved, my friend. It’s not the end.
