The Buddhist Chief High Priest of Malaysia, Ven K. Sri Dharmmaratana urged the people to realize that they are human first and act humanely at all times. He continued to say that compassion must be uppermost in the hearts and minds of every human person, which is the only way the war and strife can be averted. – The Star Newspaper

Yes, it must be every person’s basic vocation to be human first. We have our obligations and duties to our fellow human beings yet we ignored it. Our humane responsibility is to love, care and comfort and protect our fellow human beings.  God created us men and women, (human beings), to have fellowship with Him and to one another. Sometimes we are so carried away with our faith or religion that we forgot about the person next to us.

When was the last time we feed the hungry or give a cup of cold to the thirsty? Have we ever taken in someone who is homeless and looking for a place to rest their weak bodies? How often have we visited the sick in the hospital to bring them hope or the prisoners to show that we forgive them? What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.

They are all around us, yet we don’t see them. Sometimes we become so religious that we lost touch of reality. We become useless here on earth. We go through our religious duty and we forget that God command us to “love our neighbours as ourselves and to love God.” God did not intend to make us religious and useless, but rather to have a relationship with Him and to love and care for one another.

If we say we love God, but hate others, we are liars. For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love others, whom we have seen.  In other words, if you are a friend of God, then you should be friends to His creation. We are all called to be the salt and light of the world, in the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven. So let us be human first…
